UN General Assembly declares access to safe and clean drinking water is a human right

29.07.2010 (UNI) The United Nations General Assembly has declared that the right to safe and clean drinking water is among the human rights that must be ensured to all member states.

The declaration was accompanied by an expression of deep concern that almost 900 million people across the globe do not have access to drinking water.

The 192-member Assembly also called upon member states and international organizations yesterday to offer funding, technology and other resources to help poorer countries scale up their efforts to provide clean, accessible and affordable drinking water and sanitation for everyone.UNI
