PIL on Taj Mahal dismissed

February 21, 2005(UNI)

Allahabad High Court today dismissed a PIL seeking stay of declaration and teaching that Taj Mahal was built by Mughal emperor Shahjahan at Agra.

The petitioner had also prayed that the Taj Mahal be declared as a Hindu temple.

A Division Bench comprising Justices B S Chauhan and Dilip Gupta dismissed the PIL with a liberty to the petitioner to approach for his grievance before the appropriate forum.

The PIL was filed by P N Oak, founder president of "Institute of Re-writing History".

He had contented that the Taj Mahal was not built by Shahjahan and the monument was actually a Lord Shiva temple.
